Welcome to the website of the Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC).

This independent body, comprising diving medical specialists from across Northern Europe, seeks to provide advice about medical and certain safety aspects of commercial diving.

About DMAC - On the following pages you can find out about the committee's aims, history and work and its members.

Position statements - The committee has issued two statements of position:

  • DMAC Statement on Commercial Diving and Health (October 2006) summarising the current state of knowledge on the health risks associated with working in the commercial diving industry
  • DMAC Statement on Health Surveillance of Commercial Divers (April 2008) sets out the committee's belief that data collected on personnel working in the diving industry justifies health surveillance as a risk control measure. The most critical step is to gather exposure data for individuals divers. The statement then sets out recommendations for health surveillance programmes for commercial divers.

Guidance - The committee's guidance documents are made available for download.

Courses - Recently added are details on DMAC approval of courses in diving medicine, including the relevant guidance document and details on recognised courses.

Finally, a wide collection of links to related websites has been assembled, which we invite users to add to. We hope you will find the website useful and would welcome feedback on the committee's work and on the site itself.
